Take Action

 WHY NOT TAKE ACTION?

You as a young person know what is going on in the world. You know there are thousands of people who are suffering and need help. Therefore, we have to take action to help the ones in need. Several young people like you are trying as hard as they can to make this world a better place.

But you, like many other ones, don’t want to take part in this cause. You might be interested but you don’t even consider fighting for a better world because you don’t have the confidence or you think it isn’t possible, etc. Are those really reasons for you, to not take action and get involved?

Obstacles and difficulties: face them!

Of course, this aim won’t be easy to accomplish because we’re dealing with complicated issues.
For a start, we have to find the solution for the world’s problems which isn’t easy at all because the world’s problems are extremely complicated. That’s why the solution cannot be easily spotted, or you might find a solution which isn’t enough to solve everything, or that can even lead to new problems! Therefore, how can we know what is the solution?

Maybe we can find the answer to that question if we understand there isn’t only one solution. There might be various solutions and actions which can solve many parts of the problem. So if we want to search for a solution, we have to follow a procedure in which actions would be carried out so as to finish with the features of the problem; then one by one, the whole problem would be over once and for all.

Besides that, you might think that such little actions aren’t enough to determine a real change. However, this isn’t true. Little actions, and even thoughts, can lead to big changes in the world. And it’s better if you help with these little actions, which is what you can do, than do nothing at all.

However, it’s true these solutions can also lead to new problems. This is why this procedure might never end: because there will always be conflicts in the system so we’re always going to fight against them. Unfortunately, the fight won’t be over and next generations are going to keep fighting, and so on…

And as pessimist as this may sound, it’s not an option to stop fighting because if we don’t, the powerful and selfish people will be the ones who decide on our future. So, we’d go back to the beginning and all we will have done in this procedure will have been in vain.

Albeit you know now that you need to follow a process to make a change, you still don’t know how it can be done, how you can do it, where you should start, etc.
First of all, you need to understand you can’t solve the world’s problems by yourself, by one action, as if it’s something that can be done easily… You don’t have to think or carry out by yourself only. It’s true you are too small to do something so big, that’s why you need the help of other young people as well as the ones who are taking action need you.
It’s a fact that all the young people from the world we need to be together in order to make this world a better place. That’s why we need you as we need the young people from the whole world. Then, we’d be able to start this procedure. Nevertheless, you’ll find many obstacles which can take you down and will make you feel incompetent. There are numerous barriers you can face that can stop you as well as enemies who can defeat you. Consequently, you don’t feel you are strong enough to fight against so many conflicts. You ask yourself: “how can I make a change if I’m so small and if I’m not as powerful as my enemies and obstacles”.

Everyone feels insecurity and fear whenever dealing with a complicated problem, we aren’t robots. Even the ones who are taking action and helping people in need must feel the same way as you do. So, how can they manage to take action while they are feeling doubts about themselves? Well, I can answer that with another question: Do you ever face anything in life because you aren’t a confident person? We can hide or escape our fears forever. We have to face them so we can move on in life. Just like that, every young person with the purpose of doing a change is aware he could make mistakes, he could take the wrong path or he could even fail. However, we can correct our mistakes, we can take the stop following the wrong path and search for the one we should follow and no matter how many times we fall because we can stand up again and keep on going. So can you. Go ahead and try to do your best to make the difference. You, as everyone else, are aware these are delicate issues so you’ll do all you can in order to carry out every action properly. And if you make mistakes, don’t worry because you can correct them. As a matter of fact, the worst mistake is not admitting you made it and, as a result, not even trying to correct it.

Apart from that, as we said before trying to solve a world problem is also fighting against powerful enemies who make us all feel very small and incompetent. However, these enemies are people like us. They feel also insecurity and they can make mistakes, even worse, they are actually making a mistake but they don’t even realize that. All this makes me wonder if they are indeed more powerful than you? They’re not! The only reason they are more powerful than us is because we let them dominate or control all of us. Without us they are nothing. For this reason, don’t let them have power over you and you will leave them without power. You’ll defeat them. You’ll make a change.

We admit making a change isn’t something easy and there are many obstacles and difficulties that may appeared. Yet, it isn’t impossible.

Human History: a constant fight!

We are aware this whole procedure could take years therefore we might not be able to see the result. You must be wondering why making such an effort, if you may not even be there when the world is a better place. I wonder if that does matter. If youth generations succeed in making a better world and solving the world’s problem-even though we won’t be there at that moment- we’ll not only have the satisfaction that those problems are finally over, but also we’ll know our actions and participation make it possible. Thanks to us the future generations would live in a better way and that’s priceless!

Our decisions:

For all these reason, I ask you again, are there any reasons you aren’t fighting for a better world? Certainly there are more cons than pros in the procedure of making a change. That’s why you don’t even try to join this cause. However, taking no action means you are accepting and letting these unfair problems go on which is as bad as approving it.

Many young people like you don’t realize that ignoring the problems isn’t something bad. Nevertheless, Can you keep ignoring that there are thousansd of people suffering everyday, affected by these problems? And as you see this everyday, you see this as a normal thing. Even though it is something we are used to seeing, we can’t accept it!

It’s difficult but possible. We can make a change. We can help the ones in need. We can make the world a better place. It’ll take a lot of efforts but it’ll be worth it because we will have ensured the welfare of many people. Can’t you see how marvellous it would be to make a change? Despite all the difficulties and how much we have to work to accomplish it, we can make a better world where all the people would live well.

We have the right and the duty to decide on the future of this world because we’re the future. Now, we just have to make a choice: we can sit down and expect the world to heal itself or stand up and start taking action to solve its crucial problems.

YOUTH PARTICIPATION IN MASS MEDIA PART III

IF YOU HAVEN'T READ PART I AND II YET, PLEASE CLICK HERE

 How can this be achieved?

The first step would be to assure our newsletter reach as many people as possible, so that we could raise attention upon our group “Article 2” and our mission. This newsletter should be read by young people as well as adults working in key-fields like education ,mass-media ,advocacy, NGO`s and big organizations like UN and UNICEF .We need to contact important people and ask  artistic/literary personalities for their help. We can also send our newsletter to big firms as we might need their support, too. Our newsletter needs to be different from other youth publications; we need to focus on the “take action” aspect so that people could see that we intent and we know how to make a difference.

The second step would be to contact other youth groups and organizations and work together for achieving our goal of “youth participation in mass-media”. We shall collaborate and coordinate our actions as for major changes are always needed many people. So we shall contact other youth groups, explain them our idea and start militating together for youth’s right to express themselves in the media.

The third step and the most important is to launch simultaneously our campaign in all the countries, so that we could start a global movement for “youth participation”. In order to achieve this we shall write a press release and send it to all the media (TV, newspapers, radio, etc) .Luckily, nowadays there are a lot of services for sending official statements to the press through internet or fax, which distribute press releases to thousands of subscribed Medias. In this press-release we shall introduce ourselves as a group of young activists and express our desire to let young people participate in the media in order to contribute for making this world a better place.

The last step is to raise the authorities’ interest and determine that they pass a “youth-participation” law or give any other legal frame to our initiative. This can be achieved if we write letters to them and if we organize spectacles, meetings, or other events that could determine the public and the governors recognize the importance of youth-participation in mass-media. (Of course, in order to make this possible our group needs to grow a lot, to become a world youth force, otherwise we won’t have the power to make our voices heard).

We need to be well-trained!

Like every Mass-media professional, young people need to learn how to
work in this field in order to be capable to participate and convince the public
to listen to their voices.
We must learn the structure of an article so we
can write it right, know what questions we are supposed to ask and how
we should ask them in an interview, learn how to conduct a TV program ,
how to captivate the whole audience or raise the public’s interest on a
certain theme
. Young people should be allowed to join mass-media teams
already working on certain social projects and after obtaining enough knowledge
about communication matters, they should receive the permission to make
themselves a report. This project, would it be newspaper reportage, a short movie
or a radio debate, can prove the world what they have learned and would show
other young people that helping others is actually a very exciting and rewarding
experience!
Young people and art
Art contests are a great opportunity for young people to express themselves,
prove their talents and determine a change.

*Mass-media should promote contests on social themes, in order to raise      awareness or change people’s attitudes and reactions. For example:

               -essay contest on “Ending discrimination”

-drawing contest on “Peace and solidarity”

-music for a campaign “Against indifference”

*The contests `s winners will benefit by free publicity and support for their careers if, in exchange, they will chose to support a cause, start a campaign ,get involved in humanitarian projects, etc.

*In the case of performing arts (like dance, music, acting) the competitions can become real shows   , opened to the public of all ages. If these spectacles would be announced and advertised by mass-media, they would be a great fund-raising opportunity for NGO`s.

*The first step for a united society is that the mass-media encourage participating at these contests youth coming from any social environment, of any race or religion, disabled or not, so that the world could understand that talent is universal.
