IF THE WORLD WERE A VILLAGE OF 100 PEOPLE...

When you woke up this morning, did you welcome this new day with joy? Tonight, when you go to sleep, will you feel fully satisfied with your day, with your life? Do you find your home to be a precious and wonderful place?

If you weren’t able to answer ‘Yes of course’ to one of these questions, please read attentively. You will look at everything around you differently after…

There are about 6.5 billion people living in the world today. What if the world was reduced to a small village, a small village with only 100 habitants; what would it look like?

52 of these habitants would be women,

48 would be men.

30 would be children, 70 would be adults, and among them, 7 would be old.

90 would be heterosexual

10 would be homosexual

70 would be of coloured skin

30 would be white

61 would be Asians, 13 would be Africans, 13 would come from North and South America, 12 would be Europeans and only one would come from the Pacific area.

33 would be Christians,

19 would be Muslims,

13 would be Hindis,

6 would be Buddhists,

5 people would believe that

all of nature has a soul,

24 would be of another religion

or atheists.

17 would speak Chinese,

9 would speak English,

8 Hindi or Urdu,

6 would speak Spanish,

6 Russian and 4 Arab.

These people represent half of the village. The other half would speak Bengali, Portuguese, Indonesian, Japanese,
German, French, or another language.

In a village with such a various population, it would be important to learn to understand all these people so different from each other, and to accept them how they are.

Now think about this: among these 100 habitants in the village,

20 suffer of unhealthy nutrition,

1 person is starving,

15 people are overweight or obese.

Out of all the riches in the village, 6 people possess 59% - the Unites States of America – 74 people possess 39% of these riches, 20 people have to share the remaining 2%.

Out of all the energy sources in the village, 20 people consume 80% while 80 people have to share the remaining 20%.

75 people have enough food provisions and a place to store them in case of harsh weather, but 25 people do not have any of that. 17 people don’t even have access to drinkable water.

If you own a sum of money,
deposited in a bank account,
in your wallet
or even some change in your home,
you are part of the 8 wealthiest
people of the village.

If you own a car, you are part of the seven wealthiest people of the village.

Among the 100 habitants of the village, 1 attends a university, 2 possess computers, and 14 do not know how to read.

If you are able to act and speak according to your beliefs and your faith, without fear of being harassed, imprisoned, tortured or sentenced to death, then you are luckier than the 48 who do not have that possibility.

If you don’t live in the fear of being a victim of a bomb or mine explosion, a military attack, to be raped or kidnapped by an armed group, you are luckier than the 20 people who live in that fear.

In one year, a person will have died

but two babies will have been born:

at the end of the year, the village will

count 101 habitants.

If you are able to read this message, you have three reasons to be happy: first of all, because you own a computer and have access to internet, the biggest world wide communicating system. Second of all, you know how to read.

Third of all, because you live.
